Scorpions vs Tigers: Heat-by-heat

OFFICIAL track photographer ALEX SUMMERFIELD captures each race of yesterday’s classic encounter between the Scunthorpe Scorpions and Glasgow Tigers.

Heat 1: Mr Clean!  Carl Wilkinson leads all the way, while Ryan Douglas is a little more muddy in third place.

Heat 2: Josh Bailey stamps his authority on the race.  He would combine for a 5-1 with Matt Williamson.

Heat 3: Michael Palm Toft using the inside line to win a keen contest against Nike Lunna.

Heat 4: Josh Auty rounds Richard Lawson to take the lead.

Heat 5: Tigers hit back!  Young Dan Bewley, an outstanding vistitor, leads Michael Palm Toft and Lewis Kerr.  Bewley is a fine prospect for the future.

Heat 6: Ryan Douglas and Wilko ahead of Tom Perry.  Race-leader Richard Lawson is out of shot.

Heat 7: Having fought part Nike Lunna, Josh makes a late attempt to get inside Richie Worrall.  Richie held on, to inflict Josh’s only defeat of the evening.

Heat 8: Wilko on the inside of Dan Bewley.

Heat 9: In perfect harmony!  Lewis (red) and MPT (blue) head Richard Lawson for a 5-1, that placed Scorpions back in front.

Heat 10: Flashpoint!  Ryan Douglas falls after apparent contact from Nike Lunna.  Not everyone agreed with Ryan’s exclusion from the re-run…

Heat 11: Josh Auty holds off Dan Bewley.

Heat 12: Worrall leads Lewis Kerr, while Josh Bailey takes a precious point.

Heat 13: For most of this race, Josh and Aaron Summers were battling for the lead, a battle won by Josh. Out of shot – at this point – is Ryan, who snatched second place on the line from Summers after a brilliant cut-back.

Heat 14: MPT is out in front and out of shot.  Behind him, came an excellent effort by Josh Bailey in the battle for minor positions, but Lunna (white) and Perry (yellow) just held on.

Heat 15: Josh Auty chasing Richie Worrall.  On the final lap, Josh switched to the outside and got his man.  Scorpions win for the first time in 2017!
