Worrall and Allen in for CLRC
THE line-up for the Championship League Riders’ Championship at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday, April 6 (3pm start-time) has been announced – and Steve Worrall and Jake Allen will represent the home side.
The prestigious individual event launches the 21st season of action at the EWR. The competition dates back to 1968, when Middlesbrough’s Graham Plant won the British League Division Two Riders’ Championship at Hackney. The 2025 season will represent the first time that the competition has been held at Scunthorpe.
The meeting will involve all the top riders from the Cab Direct Championship, including all the No 1 riders across the nine teams.
Four previous winners are named in the line-up – with two riders going for a third victory overall.
Oxford’s Sam Masters was victorious in 2011 and 2022, representing Somerset and Edinburgh respectively, whilst new Berwick signing Craig Cook won the meeting in 2012 and 2018 in the colours of Edinburgh and then Glasgow.
Also included in the field are 2019 winner Erik Riss, who is back with Redcar this season, along with his Bears team-mate Charles Wright who was victorious in 2023.
Chris Harris (Glasgow), Danny King (Redcar) and Poole duo Richard Lawson and Lewis Kerr have all been rostrum finishers in recent seasons and will be looking to take the top step at the Eddie Wright Raceway.
For Scunthorpe, Steve Worrall and Jake Allen take their place along with Scorpions’ racer from last year Kyle Howarth, who has joined Glasgow.
The previous day (Saturday, April 5), Worrall and skipper Simon Lambert will represent Scorpions in the Championship Pairs at Workington.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “It’s an absolutely fantastic line-up for the Championship League Riders’ Championship at the Eddie Wright Raceway, featuring all the best riders in the Cab Direct Championship.
“It’s a real honour to be staging this meeting, and I hope plenty of fans travel to both the Championship Pairs at Workington on the Saturday and the CLRC at Scunthorpe on the Sunday. It’s going to be a fabulous weekend of speedway and it will get the season going with a bang.”
