Wilko in fine form, but Scorpions lose at Berwick

BERWICK BANDITS 60 SCUNTHORPE SCORPIONS 33 (PREMIER LEAGUE)

HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions suffered a heavy 33-60 defeat in a Premier League meeting at Berwick last night (Saturday), despite a fine 14-point tally from Carl Wilkinson.

Wilkinson continued his rejuvenated form, following his paid 15 in Scorpions’ last home meeting against Plymouth. His won his opening three outings, including a tactical ride in Heat 8, where a third place from Ashley Morris saw the Scorpions pick up a 7-2 to reduce the deficit to seven points.

However, the Bandits pulled well ahead in the closing stages. The Scorpions were not helped by the withdrawal of Alex Davies. Davies hurt his coccyx, after a heavy tumble in Heat 7, but it is hoped he will be fit for the home cup match against Newcastle at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon.

Ryan Douglas also suffered a couple of falls, while in scoring positions, which restricted his tally.

Czech international Zdenek Holub returned to action after a month on the sidelines with a shoulder injury, but did not score.
