GLASGOW TIGERS 53 SCUNTHORPE SCORPIONS 37 (PREMIER LEAGUE)

FLUIDAIR POWER Scunthorpe Scorpions came back from their trip north of the border to Glasgow’s Ashfield stadium without any points to show for their efforts. The Scorpions went down 37-53 in the fixture yesterday evening (Monday).

The Scorpions got off to a poor start and found themselves 10 points down after five races.

In an attempt to drag themselves back into the meeting, Ryan Douglas was nominated as a tactical ride in Heat 6, along with David Howe being placed into the race as a reserve replacement.

In a race that had to be re-run three times, the exclusion of Glasgow rider Victor Pavolaara left the Scorpions with just Theo Pijper to deal with. The Scorpions gated, but with Douglas momentarily blinded by the sun, the Australian and a possible 8-1 to Scunthorpe morphed into a 3-2 for Glasgow.

Thomas Jorgensen was Scunthorpe’s other tactical ride, in Heat 8, where a 5-3 reduced the deficit to 11 points. But Glasgow gradually increased the lead and Scunthorpe’s hopes of taking any points from the meeting disappeared.

Nicolai Klindt (heat 13) and David Howe (heat 14) were Scunthorpe’s only heat winners, with Howe (pictured) finishing as top scorer for the Scorpions with paid 13 from 7 rides.

Speaking after the meeting, team manager Dave Peet said: “We just weren’t quite on it. Nicolai (Klindt) took a few rides to get dialled in, while Thomas (Jorgensen) felt ill after his first ride. We tried the tactical ride and we were on an 8-1 until Ryan Douglas fell off, he lost concentration due to the low sun and he lost his footing in the corner.

“We do need to address our away performances; we believed we get something out of this meeting, but it just wasn’t our night. The sun was playing havoc. To begin with, no-one could see the green light.

“But it was the same for both teams. We just didn’t get going, while Glasgow were very strong.”
