David Howe 2

HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions have booked club legend David Howe as a guest for their double-header against Newcastle and Workington at the Eddie Wright Raceway tomorrow afternoon (Bank Holiday Monday, 3pm).

35-year-old Howe spent a seven-year spell with Scorpions between 2009 and 2015, often either as captain and/or riding in the No 1 spot. Mounting injury problems forced the former British Under-21 Champion into retirement partway through the 2015 season, but a refreshed Howe has returned for Berwick Bandits this season and shown good form.

Howe will guest at No 2, in place of Jake Allen. Allen is set to return from injury with Somerset at Swindon tomorrow afternoon. As Allen is missing through a doubling-up commitment, a guest is allowed in his place.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says: “It will be fantastic to see David Howe back in a Scunthorpe race-jacket, even if it’s just for one day. He had so many fantastic days with Scorpions, and he will always remain a friend of this club. He still has a lot of supporters in our area.

“As soon as we knew there was a possibility that Jake might be returning and would be riding for Somerset, we contacted David. David will always give his all for us.

“We never wanted to go into a double-header using rider replacement. We wanted seven riders to cover any mishaps.

“I’m now more confident than ever that we can pull off a double victory against Newcastle and Workington. It’s going to be a great and packed Bank Holiday Monday afternoon of 30 races of speedway.”
