Scorpions looking to bounce back
THE FLUID-AIR POWER Scunthorpe Scorpions are looking to kick-start their season at the Eddie Wright Raceway this afternoon (Sunday, 3pm).
In a double-header, the League Cup clash between the Scorpions and the Redcar Bears is followed by a National League KO Cup fixture between the Scunthorpe Stags and the King’s Lynn Young Stars.
The Scorpions have got their season off to a slow start with a 42-48 home defeat to Sheffield last Sunday, and a 27-63 mauling at Redcar on Thursday.
Promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Thursday was just one of those nights, where if anything could go wrong, it did go wrong. Everything just went against us – I think I must have run over a black cat on the way to Redcar.
“It certainly didn’t help that Anders Mellgren was seriously injured in the opening race. One boost is that Anders hasn’t damaged his spinal cord. It’s still likely to be a long road to recovery for the lad, but at least, he will recover in time.
“Leigh Lanham comes in as a guest for today’s meeting, and I think he’ll do the job for us. We really need to perform as a team and pull together to win our first meeting of the season.”
