REDCAR NEW

THE FATE of the 2015 Premier League wooden spoon could well be settled at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway this evening (Friday, 7.30pm), with the FluidAir Scunthorpe Scorpions, supported by Henderson Insurance, requiring a win by any margin to leave tonight’s visitors Redcar with that unwanted prize.

Redcar could only draw 45-45 with Workington in their final home PL meeting of the season last night, and lost the opportunity to open up more of a margin on Scunthorpe.

The Scorpions are seeking their fourth successive Premier League victory tonight, to extend their most successful spell of the season.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We’ve said for a few weeks that we wanted to avoid finishing bottom of the league and tonight’s match against Redcar is our big opportunity to complete that job.

“This is a huge meeting for both clubs. Redcar won’t want to finish bottom any more than we do, and no quarter will be given tonight out on track. It’s almost bound to be a cracking night of top quality speedway around the best racetrack in the UK.”

For the second successive meeting, Scunthorpe are set to track a full 1-7 of their own riders; the first time this has happened since April.

The Scorpions’ management are to be applauded on finding fine replacements in the shape of Zdenek Holub, Andreas Lyager and Leigh Lanham, after the injuries to Josh Auty, Ryan Douglas and Ben Wilson.

It’s another busy night of action at the EWR, with 24 heats in total, with a Midland Development League match and the ‘Blast From The Past’ troupe, riding the classic machines of yesterday, completing the card.
