SCORPIONS WANT HAPPY AWAY DAY
ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions travel to Workington in the Northern Group of the BSN Series tomorrow (Saturday) – in an afternoon fixture starting at 3pm.
So far in the competition, Scorpions beat Redcar Bears by 46-44 at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Good Friday, but it was Bears who took all three points – including the aggregate bonus point – after winning the corresponding fixture at the ECCO Arena by 57-32.
Tomorrow will be the first home of the meeting of the season for the Workington Comets – and Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey wants to see his team take advantage.
Godfrey said: “We haven’t been that strong on our travels so far this season, but a few of our boys haven’t had a lot of meetings and have been a bit race rusty.
“This time, we need to make sure the boot is on the other foot, since Workington’s previous home meeting was rained off and they haven’t ridden as a team at home so far this season. It does present us with an opportunity – an away win could make all the difference in our group of the BSN Series.”
Scorpions will use rider replacement for Luke Harrison, who is riding in a European Under-19 Championship qualifier in Slovakia.
For those who cannot make it to Workington, British Speedway Network (BSN) are streaming the meeting at: https://watch.britishspeedway.co.uk/
Meanwhile, Connor Mountain is through to the British Final, after he finished in sixth place in the British Semi-Final at Leicester on Thursday. In a three-man run-off for the final two places, Mountain finished behind Lewis Kerr, but crucially he passed Craig Cook, to book his place – alongside Steve Worrall – in the showpiece event at the National Speedway Stadium in Manchester on Monday, May 12.
Expected teams for tomorrow (Saturday):
Workington Comets: 1. Troy Batchelor (C), 2. Jye Etheridge, 3. Tate Zischke, 4. Fraser Bowes, 5. Antti Vuolas, 6. Jacob Hook, 7. Vinnie Foord.
Ellie Rose Travel Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Steve Worrall, 2. Luke Harrison R/R, 3. Simon Lambert (C), 4. Connor Mountain, 5. Jake Allen, 6. Declan Kennedy, 7. Zaine Kennedy.
* ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions are next in action at the Eddie Wright Raceway next Friday (May 9) at 7.30pm, in their concluding BSN Series qualifying fixture.
