ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions are looking to complete the double over Plymouth Gladiators in the Cab Direct Championship at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway tomorrow evening (Friday, July 11) at 7.30pm.

Scorpions produced a battling performance to win 47-42 at Plymouth on Saturday, leading only once – after the completion of Heat 15. Jake Allen (13+1), trump-card reserve Zaine Kennedy (13) and Steve Worrall (12+2) were the cornerstone of that victory.

Any margin of victory over Gladiators at the EWR would secure three Cab Direct Championship points – including the aggregate bonus point – and propel Scorpions from sixth to third in the table.

Scorpions are due to be at full strength, while Plymouth will use rider replacement for their skipper Ben Barker, who is recovering after the removal of his appendix.

Plymouth are headed by Danish star Nicolai Klindt, who has held the Scunthorpe track record since he was a Scorpion in 2014. They have recently signed Daniel Klima, the wildcard for this year’s Czech Republic Grand Prix, and he lines up at reserve for Gladiators.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We need to start finding consistency, but we are hanging in there and the play-offs are still very much within reach.

“We needed the result at Plymouth last weekend to pick the boys up and spur them on. It has given us a lifeline and we have more away fixtures we can target for sure.

“In the meantime, we need to finish the job we started in Devon and complete the double over the Gladiators at the Eddie Wright Raceway. We certainly won’t under-estimate the Gladiators, but we know if we fire on all cylinders, we can add another three points to our account in the Cab Direct Championship.

“It’s peak summer now, the weather is glorious, so we encourage our loyal fans to bring along their family and friends. We’ve now got the running race for the kids. Let’s see if we can pack the place out for some top-class speedway!”
