SCORPIONS OUT TO SMASH COMETS INTO ORBIT

ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions conclude their BSN Series qualifying matches when they entertain the Workington Comets at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway tomorrow evening (Friday, May 9) at 7.30pm.

All three points are up for offer, including the aggregate bonus point, after Comets won the corresponding clash in Cumbria last Saturday afternoon by 47-43. Both teams are due to be at full strength.

The BSN Series is divided into three regional groups, with both Redcar and Workington joining Scorpions in the Northern group. The group winner progresses to the semi-finals, with the best runner-up across the three groups also advancing.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “The clash against Workington will be our first home meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway for three weeks, when we defeated Redcar in a Good Friday thriller, after Jake Allen was the last heat hero. In the meantime, there was a slightly disappointing performance at Redcar, but we then put up a much better show at Workington last Saturday, so I feel things are heading in the right direction.

“There were plenty of positives to take from the Workington trip, particularly Declan Kennedy who won three races from reserve and scored 10 points. Don’t forget, we are taking him to places for the first time this season, he hasn’t seen any of these tracks before, so to win three heats on his first visit to Workington was terrific.

“We’re in a decent position regarding the aggregate bonus point against Comets. All we can do is to try to score big against them and see where it leaves us once all the regional tables are finalised on Saturday.

“It’s bound to be an entertaining night of speedway. It’s the first of three successive Fridays of action at the Eddie Wright Raceway and we want to start making our home track a fortress.”
