SCORPIONS AFTER GOOD FIRST LEG IN SCOTLAND
ELLIE ROSE Travel Scunthorpe Scorpions are seeking an improved performance at Edinburgh’s Armadale Stadium tonight (Friday) in the first leg of a BSN Series semi-final.
The second leg is at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday, September 6. The aggregate winners progress to the final, where they are likely to meet Poole, who are 59-31 ahead of Workington after the first leg in Dorset on Wednesday.
Scunthorpe are currently third in the Cab Direct Championship, while Monarchs occupy bottom position. However, Scorpions will not take Monarchs lightly, since they beat Scorpions to the aggregate bonus point in the regular league matches beaten the two clubs. That was mostly due to Scorpions slipping to a 34-56 defeat at Armadale.
Team manager David Howe said: “This season, we’ve tended to do better if we go back somewhere a second time.
“We’d like to keep it as close as possible. As always, we are confident with our form at Scunthorpe, but we’d rather make it a little bit easier this time around.”
Expected teams for tonight (Friday):
Edinburgh Monarchs: 1. Josh Pickering, 2. Kye Thomson, 3. Lasse Fredriksen, 4. Paco Castagna, 5. Justin Sedgmen, 6. Max James, 7. Connor Coles.
Ellie Rose Travel Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Michael Palm Toft, 2. Connor Mountain, 3. Simon Lambert (captain), 4. Jake Allen, 5. Kyle Howarth, 6. Nathan Ablitt, 7. Luke Harrison.
* THE next action at the Eddie Wright Raceway is on Friday, August 30 – a double-header commencing at 7pm featuring both Scunthorpe teams, Scorpions and Stags, taking on the Oxford Cheetahs and Oxford Chargers in the Cab Direct Championship and WSRA National League respectively.
