SCORPIONS SEEK BETTER PERFORMANCE AT POOLE
SCORPIONS SEEK MUCH BETTER PERFORMANCE AT WIMBORNE ROAD
SECOND-PLACED Ellie Rose Travel Scunthorpe Scorpions are involved in the first of two top-of-the-table Cab Direct Championship clashes this week with league leaders Poole Pirates, when they travel down to Wimborne Road on the South Coast tonight (Wednesday) at 7.30pm.
After 11 Championship matches, Pirates are unbeaten across the standard 15 heats, having only come unstuck in a Super Heat at Oxford. They have won their other 10 league meetings.
Scorpions could go top this week, but to do that they would need to win both tonight and in the corresponding fixture at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday (7.30pm).
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We took a battering at Poole in the first leg of the Cab Direct Knockout Cup semi-final a couple of weeks ago.
“We know that we can ride much better at Poole – we demonstrated that last season. Both sides are well on course for the play-offs and this week we want to put a seed of doubt in the minds of the Pirates. At the moment, Poole are riding high on confidence and are all laughs and smiles.
“We want to push Poole much tighter at Wimborne Road and then we’ll see what we need to do against them at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday. We’d love to take at least three points off the Pirates this week, including the aggregate bonus point. That would really knock Poole’s confidence and give our lads a tremendous boost.”
For those who cannot make it down to Wimborne Road, British Speedway Network (BSN) are streaming the meeting at: https://watch.britishspeedway.co.uk/
Expected teams for tonight (Wednesday):
Poole Pirates: 1. Richard Lawson, 2. Sam Hagon, 3. Ben Cook, 4. Zach Cook, 5. Tom Brennan, 6. Tobias Thomsen, 7. Ben Trigger (guest).
Ellie Rose Travel Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Michael Palm Toft, 2. Simon Lambert (captain), 3. Jake Allen, 4. Connor Mountain, 5. Kyle Howarth, 6. Nathan Ablitt, 7. Luke Harrison.
