SCORPIONS CHASE ALL THREE POINTS AGAINST COMETS

ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions are looking to maintain their 100% home record when they entertain Workington Comets in the Cab Direct Championship at the Eddie Wright Raceway tomorrow evening (Friday) at 7.30pm.

Scunthorpe have won all eight of their previous home meetings in 2024, while Comets have been the most impressive visitors to the EWR this season. They previously scored 41 points in the BSN Series clash at the North Lincolnshire venue in May. No other visiting team has hit the 40-point barrier.

An aggregate bonus point is up for grabs, after Comets won 51-39 at Northside on June 22. Both teams are currently in the play-offs positions – Scorpions are third and Comets fourth.

If Scorpions were to win and take and the bonus point, and Poole lose at Glasgow, then Scorpions would leapfrog both Poole and Oxford and move to the top of the Cab Direct Championship table.

Scorpions are due to remain at full strength, while Workington bring in Jason Edwards as a guest for the injured Tate Zischke.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We’re targeting all three points against Comets, including the aggregate bonus point.

“First things first, we want to make sure that we win the meeting, but beyond that we’ll be looking to overturn the 12-point deficit from the clash at Workington. That’s not going to be easy, since the result earlier in the season against the Comets at the Eddie Wright Raceway was 49-41 to us.

“I’ve said all along that I want a top two finish and taking all three points off Workington would be an important part of that.

“It’s a big clash for two sides very much in play-off contention. Workington have surprised some people this season, but they haven’t surprised me. It’s going to be another fantastic night of speedway and, now it’s the school holidays, I hope plenty of families will come along to what is a value-for-money evening out.”
