Big Match Preview: Scunthorpe v Glasgow
SCORPIONS HOST CHAMPIONS IN MOUTH-WATERING CLASH
ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions will be seeking to maintain their unblemished home record when they host reigning champions Glasgow Tigers in the Cab Direct Championship at the Eddie Wright Raceway tomorrow evening (Friday) at 7.30pm.
Scunthorpe have won all seven of their previous home meetings in 2024, and Workington are the sole visitors to reach the 40-point-barrier.
Scorpions are expecting Michael Palm Toft to return from his collarbone injury, that was sustained at Berwick on June 1, while Dane moves to No 1 with the publication of the new Green Sheet averages for July.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “The return of Michael from injury is great news, as we start the second half of our league season in the Cab Direct Championship.
“Eight matches down, eight to go, starting against the reigning league champions Glasgow, and if we can repeat our first half record of five wins from eight in the second half, that should be enough to take us into the play-offs.
“My targets are set higher than just making the play-offs – I want a top two finish. Glasgow are one of the sides close behind us so we need to ensure there are no slip-ups and hopefully we can also build up a decent lead to stand us in good stead for the aggregate bonus when we travel to Scotland for the return fixture in two weeks’ time.
“It’s a big clash for both sides, with both teams in need of the points as the race for the play-offs hots up, and it’s highly likely to be another very entertaining meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway for the fans to watch.”
