SCORPIONS LOOK TO MAINTAIN WINNING RUN
ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions travel to Oxford tonight (7.30pm) seeking their sixth successive victory – and are also looking to maintain their 100% record in the Cab Direct Championship.
Scorpions have won three out of three league matches, with a comfortable home victory over Redcar (53-37), combined with 46-44 victories at both Redcar and Berwick.
However, the victory at Berwick on Saturday came at a cost – with Danish star Michael Palm Toft sustaining a broken collarbone after he lost a chain entering the first bend in Heat 6. Palm Toft will be ruled out of action for a few weeks.
Nathan Ablitt was also caught up in the same accident and missed the rest of the meeting at Berwick. But returned to action in the British Under-21 Championship at Glasgow on Sunday, where he scored eight points and Luke Harrison collected five points.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Of course, it’s a blow to be without Michael and I wish him a speedy recovery.
“Our lads are in good form so we’ll use rider replacement for him at Oxford and – with Michael being second in our averages – everyone can take a ride.
“We showed plenty of fight to win at Berwick on Saturday, despite being reduced to five riders for the last two-thirds of the meeting. We’ve got a bit of momentum behind us at the moment, and we’d like to carry that forward for a bit longer with a good result at Oxford.”
Expected teams for tonight (Wednesday):
Monarch Oxford Cheetahs: 1. Sam Masters, 2. Luke Killeen, 3. Jordan Jenkins, 4. Cameron Heeps, 5. Scott Nicholls (captain), 6. Ashton Boughen, 7. Jacob Hook (guest).
Ellie Rose Travel Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Kyle Howarth, 2. Michael Palm Toft R/R, 3. Simon Lambert (captain), 4. Connor Mountain, 5. Jake Allen, 6. Nathan Ablitt, 7. Luke Harrison.
* ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe host Berwick at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday (June 7) at 7.30pm. A re-arranged fixture then sees Oxford Cheetahs at the EWR on Friday, June 14.
