SCORPIONS SEEK LEAGUE DOUBLE OVER BEARS

ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions start an important weekend for their league aspirations in the Cab Direct Championship when they host the Redcar Bears at the Eddie Wright Raceway tomorrow evening (Friday, 7.30pm).

Scorpions are involved in their second and third Cab Direct Championship meetings of the season this weekend, since they are also in action at Berwick on Saturday evening.

Scunthorpe won their league opener at Redcar by 46-44 earlier this month, so an aggregate bonus point is also up for grabs.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We’ve made a good start to the season in the BSN Series and the Knockout Cup, getting through to the semi-finals of both competitions, so now we need to be pushing on from that and getting ourselves firmly in the play-off positions in the league table.

“We’re very familiar with the Redcar Bears having met twice in the BSN Series and once in the league, and they’ve not had the best of luck so far, suffering injuries, notably to Danny King, and losing all of their first four league matches.

“That means they have their backs against the wall already in terms of making the play-offs and will be desperate to get points on the board tonight to give themselves a chance, so we really need to be on our guard.

“Bears have brought in one of the Championship’s in-form riders in Workington’s Tate Zischke as a guest for Danny King, so it promises to be a very tight contest. But I’m sure, that with the backing of our loyal supporters, we can add another three points to our league account, prior to our visit to Berwick on Saturday evening.”

For those who cannot make it to the Eddie Wright Raceway, Scorpions are live streaming home meetings for just £11.99 at: https://tv.scunthorpe-speedway.com/
