SCORPIONS LOOK TO BOUNCE BACK
ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions commence their league campaign with a Cab Direct Championship clash at Redcar tonight (Friday) at 7.30pm.
Last weekend was a disappointing one for Scorpions – they lost 36-54 at Berwick in the first leg of a Cab Direct Knockout Cup quarter-final on Saturday, followed by a 34-56 reverse at Workington in the BSN Series on Sunday.
Scorpions have already won 48-42 at Redcar this year in the BSN Series – while Ashton Boughen will guest for the injured Nathan Ablitt tonight.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Last weekend wasn’t the one we wanted, although we’re far from out of either competition. I still believe that we have a good side this season that can challenge for silverware. The nucleus of the team is there and so is the belief.
“Every side has good bays and bad days throughout the season, and we’re working hard to put the bad days behind us and have the good days going forward.
“We’ve already enjoyed a win at Redcar this season. Bears will, of course, be out to stop us doing that again, but we have the belief that we can go there and get a good result to launch our league campaign.”
Expected teams for tonight (Friday):
Redcar Bears: 1. Charles Wright, 2. Jonas Knudsen, 3. Connor Bailey, 4. Jason Edwards, 5. Erik Riss (guest), 6. Jake Mulford, 7. Ben Trigger.
Ellis Rose Travel Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Kyle Howarth, 2. Connor Mountain, 3. Simon Lambert (captain), 4. Michael Palm Toft, 5. Jake Allen (pictured), 6. Ashton Boughen (guest), 7. Luke Harrison.
* The next meeting at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway is next Friday (May 10) at 7.30pm, with the visit of Workington Comets in a decisive BSN Series clash.
