Ellie Rose Travel are new title sponsors

SCUNTHORPE Scorpions have new title sponsors for the 2024 season – Ellie Rose Travel.

Ellie Rose Travel UK Ltd is a family run business in the East Riding of Yorkshire based on the outskirts of East Hull (Saltend). Operating since 2002, initially by founders the late James and Sheila Houghton.

Director Shane Houghton has been in the industry since 1981 working with various local operators, before taking the reins of Ellie Rose Travel, following the passing of his parents. In 2018, Shane was joined by his daughter, Ellie Rose herself.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “When we announced that Joe Henderson was completing his near 20-year association with our club towards the end of the 2023 season through his various companies – which had included Henderson Insurance, HEB and Attis Insurance – Shane Houghton approached me and said he wanted Ellie Rose Travel to be the new title sponsors of the Scunthorpe Scorpions.

“Both Shane and Mandy Houghton are very good friends not only of my wife Gail and myself, but also Scunthorpe Speedway as a whole. I’m sure many of our fans are aware of how much they help us and how often they are up the stadium.

“They’ve already given so much to our club and I’m delighted that they are our new sponsors. The Ellie Rose Travel Scunthorpe Scorpions has a very nice ring to it! We’re already the defending Knockout Cup champions and we’d love to win some silverware under the Ellie Rose Travel banner. In any case, we’ll be out to have a good season and get their name out far and wide.

“It’s nice that they are a Hull-based company. I’d love to see Hull Speedway back – the supporters from there are so enthusiastic and we see supporters come from Hull to Scunthorpe every week and really get behind the Scorpions.

“I can’t think Joe Henderson enough for his assistance and support of the club down the years and it was nice we won the cup in our final meeting under his sponsorship. But it’s now a new era and I can’t wait for the Ellie Rose Travel Scunthorpe Scorpions to take to the track on Good Friday against the Workington Comets.”

* THE opening meeting of the season is at the Eddie Wright Raceway is on Good Friday against Workington in the BSN Series on Good Friday (March 29) at 5.30pm. Press and practice will take place the preceding Friday on March 22 at 6pm.
