SCORPIONS AIM TO BOOK PLAY-OFF PLACE

ATTIS INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions can make certain of a place in the end-of-season play-offs with a victory over third-placed Glasgow Tigers in a Cab Direct Championship league match at the Eddie Wright Raceway tonight (Friday, 7.30pm).

The top six qualify for the play-offs. Scorpions are currently in fifth place, and two more points would be enough to mathematically guarantee their qualification.

Scunthorpe lost 44-46 at home to Glasgow in May in the semi-finals of the BSN Series on an off-night for Scorpions, but the North Lincolnshire club are gunning for revenge.

Scorpions will be buoyed following their record-breaking 55-35 away victory at Birmingham on Wednesday night, when reserve Drew Kemp scored a paid maximum and every Scorpion took at least one win or paid win.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We stepped up a notch at Birmingham on Wednesday, and we’re now at a stage of the season where momentum is vital. We want to stay in that winning groove as we build up towards the play-offs and the Knockout Cup semi-final against Redcar.

“We know that Glasgow will be no walkover, after all they’ve already won here once this season. But if we fire on all cylinders like we did at Birmingham, then not only can we beat the Tigers but also chase the aggregate bonus point, where we have ten points to make up from the first leg in Scotland.

“Make no mistake, it’s going to be another superb night of action at the Eddie Wright Raceway, and a reminder – especially while we’re still in the school holidays – that all accompanied kids go free at Scunthorpe Speedway this season so it’s a perfect night out for the whole family.”

The club will also be holding their annual collection for the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund during the night, so please give as generously as you can for this most worthy of causes.

For those who cannot make it to the Eddie Wright Raceway, Scorpions are live streaming home meetings for just £11.99 at: https://tv.scunthorpe-speedway.com/

Accompanied children aged 16 and under will be admitted free all season to speedway meetings at the Eddie Wright Raceway.
