Lambert out to make impression in British Final
SIMON LAMBERT, skipper of the Attis Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions, insists that he is not going to the British Final at the National Speedway Stadium in Belle Vue, Manchester on Monday evening to make up the numbers.
The 34-year-old has been in the form of his career this season, and currently has an average of 7.56 from 12 Cab Direct Championship meetings for Scorpions. He has also gained a place with King’s Lynn’s top-flight Premiership side during the year.
Lambert said: “I’ve got nothing to lose and so much to gain in the British Final. It’s the first year that I’ve qualified on merit, as opposed to stepping in when other riders have been unable to do the meeting. It was a goal of mine to qualify on merit.
“It’s a good thing for my family, my friends, and my sponsors to be in the British Final – it’s a big date in the calendar.
“I’m going to enjoy it and do my best. I’m not saying I’m going to win it, but I’m not going there to make up the numbers.
“I’ve got a good draw at No 1 and there’s no reason that I can’t jump out of the start in Heat 1 and give myself a bit of confidence and build on that.”
The best placed rider apart from Grand Prix regular Dan Bewley will qualify for the British Grand Prix at the Principality Stadium at Cardiff on September 2.
