Big Match Preview: Scunthorpe v Poole
SCORPIONS HOST REIGNING CHAMPIONS
ATTIS INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions are aiming to defeat reigning champions Poole Pirates in what looks like a mouth-watering Cab Direct Championship league match at the Eddie Wright Raceway tonight (Friday, 7.30pm).
The two sides met at Poole in May, with Pirates winning 49-41, and Scorpions need to score 50 points tonight to maintain their perfect run of aggregate bonus points, having already beaten Redcar, Plymouth and Edinburgh on aggregate.
Danish star Michael Palm Toft is due to make his return for Scorpions, after missing the last two months with an ankle injury.
Scunthorpe are without Drew Kemp, who is racing for Great Britain in Latvia tonight in the Speedway of Nations 2 tournament, and Berwick Steve’s Boxall will fill the gap. Poole are likewise without Anders Rowe, who is one of Kemp’s team-mates in the GB team.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We know that tonight’s meeting will be extremely difficult – Poole always have a very strong side. They’ve ended up as champions for both the last two seasons, but having said that, we beat them around the Eddie Wright Raceway in both those seasons and there’s no reason why we can’t beat them again.
“Our first task is gaining victory, while Ryan scored an 18-point-maximum when we were down there in May and we’re also not too far behind on aggregate and there is a bonus point to chase as well.
“Last season’s meeting against Poole was an absolute cracker and I can’t see this year being any different. The weather is set fair, and it’s the middle of the school holidays, so it’s going to be another great evening to bring along the family to see some top-class speedway action at the Eddie Wright Raceway.”
Accompanied children aged 16 and under will be admitted free all season to speedway meetings at the Eddie Wright Raceway.
For those who cannot make it to the Eddie Wright Raceway, Scorpions are live streaming home meetings for just £11.99 at: https://tv.scunthorpe-speedway.com/
