SCORPIONS AIM FOR THREE POINTS AGAINST EDINBURGH

ATTIS INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions are looking for a victory against the Edinburgh Monarchs at the Eddie Wright Raceway tomorrow (Friday, 7.30pm) which would move them up into the top three of the Cab Direct Championship table.

Scunthorpe picked up a record-breaking 54-36 away win at Edinburgh’s Armadale Stadium in May – their biggest-ever away league victory at Championship level – so there is also an aggregate point up for grabs.

Scorpions continue to be without the injured Michael Palm Toft, and Zach Cook will come in as a guest. Meanwhile, Drew Kemp returns to the Scunthorpe line-up, despite crashing out battered and bruised during last week’s classic encounter with league leaders Oxford, which Cheetahs eventually won in a Superheat.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We are going for a big three points against Edinburgh, having got the away win at their place in the bag earlier in the season.

“If we manage to collect all three, that will be a boost after we dropped a point last Friday against Oxford. That was a cracking match with some fantastic racing throughout – and I hope everyone who saw it will come back for more, because it was a great advert for speedway – but it was disappointing to miss out on maximum points following the first-ever Superheat at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

“No doubt the Monarchs will be after revenge, and we’ll treat them with every respect, but if we ride to our capabilities, then I fully believe we can win the meeting. Josh Pickering is one of the most spectacular visitors around the EWR, but Ryan, Simon, Jake, and the rest of our boys will be looking to lower his colours.

“It’s going to be another great night of action at the Eddie Wright Raceway. As well as the 15 races of Scorpions versus Monarchs, there’s an extra 14 races with the 500cc and 125cc classes of the British Youth Championship.

“Those races will follow in the second half, all for no additional admission price, and they will add additional value to a cracking night’s entertainment. Riders such as Ashton Boughen and Jody Scott are certainly no slouches, and it will be interesting to see how their winning times compare to the lads in the first half.”

Accompanied children aged 16 and under will be admitted free all season to speedway meetings at the Eddie Wright Raceway.
