SCORPIONS HOST LEAGUE LEADERS IN MOUTH-WATERING CLASH

ATTIS INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions host unbeaten league leaders Oxford Cheetahs in what promises to be a classic encounter at the Eddie Wright Raceway tomorrow (Friday, 7.30pm).

Scunthorpe have been in prime form at the Eddie Wright Raceway in recent weeks, beating highly fancied Redcar (55-35), Birmingham (61-29) and Plymouth (57-32) in the last three meetings at the venue.

Oxford have won all six of their meetings in the Cab Direct Championship, including away wins at Birmingham, Berwick and Plymouth.

Scunthorpe are again without the injured Michael Palm Toft. It’s highly likely that Scorpions will use the rider replacement facility for the Dane, although there’s also a potential guest rider who may accept a late booking. Meanwhile, Connor Mountain is set to return, despite sustaining a knee injury at Glasgow last Friday.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “It’s going to be one hell of a meeting against Oxford – it’s bound to be one of the matches of the season at the Eddie Wright Raceway. Something has got to give.

“Oxford haven’t dropped a point yet in the Cab Direct Championship – so maybe it’s about time we put that right!

“The Cheetahs come here on the back of three straight away wins in the league, so we can expect a tough match against a side with one of the best heat-leader trios in the division in Sam Masters, Scott Nicholls and Lewis Kerr.

“But we don’t fear anyone, especially at the Eddie Wright Raceway, and I’m very optimistic that we can maintain our winning run which has seen us post three excellent home victories since the blip against Glasgow in mid-May.

“All the boys have all been riding well, especially Simon Lambert. The skipper is riding the best he’s ever ridden, no question, and he wants to win the league this year as much as I do, and like we all do.”

Accompanied children aged 16 and under will be admitted free all season to speedway meetings at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

For those who cannot make it to the Eddie Wright Raceway, Scorpions are live streaming home meetings for just £11.99 at: https://tv.scunthorpe-speedway.com/.
