SCORPIONS CHASE THREE-POINTER

ATTIS INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions – who have not scored less than 54 points in their previous three meetings – are chasing all three Cab Direct Championship points when they host the Plymouth Gladiators at the Eddie Wright Raceway tomorrow (Friday, 7.30pm).

Scunthorpe have hit some terrific form over the three previous Fridays – with a large 54-36 victory at Edinburgh, followed as a 55-35 destruction of fancied Redcar at the EWR, while struggling Birmingham were demolished 61-29 last week, as Scorpions booked their place in the KO Cup semi-finals.

Scorpions tracked an unchanged team from last Friday, and while the first priority is to score 46 points and win the meeting, a score of 50 would also gain the aggregate bonus point.

There is quite a history between Scunthorpe and Plymouth, dating back to when both clubs were battling for honours at Conference League level in 2006 and 2007, when Scorpions largely swept the board.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We’re looking forward to carrying on our recent form into the meeting against Plymouth.

“We want to continue our strong start to the league season and keep up with the front-runners. With only a 41-49 deficit from the meeting at Plymouth in early May, we’ve also got an aggregate bonus point to chase.

“But we won’t get over-confident. We all remember last season’s home defeat by Plymouth which was a massive setback at the time. We will respect the Gladiators, but at the same time, given our current form around the Eddie Wright Raceway, I believe we can take all three points on offer.”

Accompanied children aged 16 and under will be admitted free all season to speedway meetings at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

For those who cannot make it to the Eddie Wright Raceway, Scorpions are live streaming home meetings for just £11.99 at: https://tv.scunthorpe-speedway.com/
