SCORPIONS UP FOR BIG CLASH

ATTIS INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions are involved in their first semi-final in a national competition for five years, when they host Glasgow Tigers in the first leg of the BSN Series semi-finals at the Eddie Wright Raceway tomorrow evening (Friday, 7.30pm).

Scorpions qualified for the semi-finals after winning the northern group, after home and away wins over Birmingham, plus beating Redcar at home and taking the aggregate bonus point from Bears. Meanwhile, Glasgow were winners of the Scottish group ahead of Berwick and Edinburgh.

Tomorrow will mark the home debut for Scorpions’ recent signings Max Clegg and Nathan Ablitt.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “It’s good to make it through to the semi-finals of the BSN Series, but, of course, we don’t want to stop there. We want to beat Glasgow and make it through to the final, against Poole or Redcar.

“Our away form is much improved this season, but it’s still important for us to build up a nice lead from the first leg at the Eddie Wright Raceway to take up to Glasgow next Friday in the second leg. The bigger our lead, the better.

“I’m convinced that Max Clegg and Nathan Ablitt will have a better meeting than they did at Berwick, while we also had a few niggly machinery problems up there that we hopefully have put behind us.

“It’s going to be a great contest, between two sides that are both gunning for the final. Glasgow have high quality heat-leaders in the shape of Chris Harris, Benjamin Basso and Tom Brennan, but so do we, and Ryan Douglas, Jake Allen and Michael Palm Toft are on fire around the EWR, plus it’s going to be a real boost having Connor Mountain at reserve.

“There’s going to be some tremendous racing and I hope our supporters turn up in numbers and get right behind the lads, because we really want a cup final at Scunthorpe next month.”

For those who cannot make it to the Eddie Wright Raceway, the British Speedway Network (BSN) are live streaming the meeting for just £11.99 at: https://watch.britishspeedway.co.uk/
