Scorpions aim for away win
ATTIS INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions are seeking their first league points in the Cab Direct Championship at Berwick tonight (Saturday, 6.30pm).
New signings Max Clegg and Nathan Ablitt will now make their debuts for Scorpions at Shielfield Park tonight, after last week’s home cup clash with Birmingham at the Eddie Wright Raceway was washed away at just after 6.30pm due to a torrential rain shower.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “I believe the key to success in the Cab Direct Championship this season is winning consistently at home and also picking up the aggregate bonus points. It’s why our eight-point defeat at Plymouth on Tuesday – in our first league match of the season – wasn’t a bad result, because the bonus point is still well within reach.
“At the same time, to get a nice, healthy league position, we have targeted to pick up a victory in various away meetings. For whatever reason, while we’ve had a good start to the season, Berwick have not.
“We won’t underestimate them. Bandits have beaten Edinburgh home and away this season, so we need to respect them. At the same time, I have every belief that we can win up there.
“It’s also the first test for our new-look team. I believe both Max Clegg and Nathan Ablitt can enjoy a good night, while Connor Mountain enjoys the Berwick track and there’s every chance that he can knock up a very good score from the reserve berth, now that he’s at No 7 for Scorpions.”
Expected teams for tonight (Saturday):
Berwick Bandits: 1. Thomas Jorgensen, 2. Jonas Knudsen, 3. Leon Flint, 4. Jye Etheridge, 5. Rory Schlein, 6. Greg Blair, 7. Connor Coles.
Attis Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Ryan Douglas, 2. Simon Lambert (captain), 3. Max Clegg, 4. Jake Allen, 5. Michael Palm Toft, 6. Nathan Ablitt, 7. Connor Mountain.
