KIDS GO FREE, AS SCORPIONS START SEASON WITH GOOD FRIDAY CRACKER

ATTIS INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions commence their 2023 season when Redcar are the visitors to the Eddie Wright Raceway on Good Friday (5pm), in a brand-new competition, the BSN Series.

The BSN Series is divided into three regional groups each consisting of three teams, with the winners of each group, plus the highest-scoring runners-up qualifying for the semi-finals. Scunthorpe are in a group also consisting of Redcar and Birmingham.

Meanwhile, Scorpions head into the season one man down – Zaine Kennedy faces a spell on the sidelines after a mountain bike fall in his native Australian left him with broken bones in his back. Scorpions have been granted an initial 28-day-facility, with the possibility of an extension. Ty Proctor will be the guest on Good Friday.

In a bid to encourage younger fans, accompanied children aged 16 and under will be admitted free all season to speedway meetings at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

Promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We’d like to increase the number of young people and families at speedway meetings at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

“Speedway is a highly exciting high-octane sport that provides thrills and spills and once the younger generations are hooked on it, it’s addictive.

“As for the meeting on Good Friday against Redcar, they are all tough matches in the Cab Direct Championship but this one is made a little tougher for us because it is our first meeting, whereas Redcar have got two home meetings under their belts.

“Having said that, most of our team have already been in action elsewhere this season and have had fixtures this week in which to sharpen up. We’ll be fine, I’m sure, and our aim is to start our BSN series campaign with a victory.

“It certainly won’t be easy, but it’s almost certainly likely to be a great meeting with some terrific racing.”

Redcar have two riders out themselves, including COVID-19 victim Charles Wright.

For those who cannot make it to the Eddie Wright Raceway, Scorpions are live streaming home meetings for just £11.99 at: https://tv.scunthorpe-speedway.com/
