SCUNTHORPE SCORPIONS will start their 2023 season with a mouthwatering home meeting against the Redcar Bears at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Good Friday (April 7th) at 5pm.

Redcar visit in a new competition, the BSN Series, named after the British Speedway Network. Their streaming service was one of the big successes of the 2022 speedway season and BSN will again stream selected meetings from all Championship tracks this year.

Scunthorpe are in the northern group of the BSN Series, along with Redcar and Birmingham. The group winner will progress automatically to the semi-finals, along with the runner-up, providing they have the best record across the three groups.

There are plenty of attractive fixtures to look forward to, including the very first league meeting in the entire Championship, when Oxford Cheetahs visit the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday, April 14. The top six teams in the Championship progress to the play-offs, which are due to take place in September.

In the Knockout Cup, Scorpions have received a bye to the second round, where they will face Birmingham Brummies.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “It’s going to be another exciting season of racing at the Eddie Wright Raceway in 2023. We start with the visit of Redcar on Good Friday. It always seems to be a close encounter between us and Redcar, whether it’s at our place or at their place, and I’m sure this season won’t be any different.

“But there are going to be so many highlights. Our home match against Oxford Cheetahs on April launches the entire Championship league campaign. We just missed out on the play-offs last season, but this year, I believe we have a team that will make sure we’re right in the mix when it comes to handing out the honours.

“You could then pick out the visit of Poole, the league champions, in August. We pipped them in a total thriller last season, and it again promises to be a terrific meeting.

“I’ve said this before, but the Championship is a very competitive league and every meeting has the potential to be a fantastic meeting. I can’t wait for the season to start.”
