RYAN DOUGLAS, the No 1 for the Attis Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions, was out of luck in the Championship League Riders’ Championship at Poole last night (Wednesday).

Douglas scored 12 points and was joint top scorer with Sam Masters. As such, both bypassed the semi-final and progressed straight to the final.

But Douglas got the worst of a heavy pile-up in the first staging of the final as he and Masters came down. Douglas was able to walk away, but could not take his place in the re-run.

Masters then got the better of home man Danny King and Redcar’s Lewis Kerr to take the title.

Masters, who himself was riding in the meeting with an injury, said: “It was adrenaline that got me through it all. I have to thank my boys back in the pits who did an awesome job of getting the bike together. It was a bit twisted and needed some work done to it.

“I hope that Dougie is going to be okay. We are team-mates at Wolverhampton and it was a pretty high-speed crash we had.”

Qualifying scores: Sam Masters 12, Ryan Douglas 12, Lewis Kerr 10, Nick Morris 10, Danny King 10, Richard Lawson 10, Scott Nicholls 9, Charles Wright 9,
