Adam Roynon in for Scorpions
ATTIS INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions have brought in the experienced Adam Roynon as a replacement for Connor Coles.
Coles was handed a team place with Scorpions after scoring 4+2 in a guest appearance in a home meeting against Redcar in early June in place of the injured Ryan Kinsley. He scored just one point in the two meetings against Edinburgh last weekend.
33-year-old Roynon has a speedway career that dates all the way back to 2003. Surprisingly, it is his first-ever spell with Scunthorpe, despite some impressive displays at the Eddie Wright Raceway in the past. He has been recently released by Redcar.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Once Adam became available, we realised we needed to sign him. He wasn’t having a great time at Redcar, but he was riding for them up at No 2. Redcar released just as he’d gained a new average and was due to drop to reserve.
“It means Adam will slot into our team at No 6 on a 3.00 average. I’m convinced he can do the job that we need him to, which is to pick up a few points per meeting.
“We thank Connor Coles for his efforts with the club. He was frequently getting amongst the other riders and wasn’t far off getting some decent points returns. We notice Connor scored a lot of points for the Leicester National League team in their latest meeting, and I hope it’s not too long until his next chance at Championship level.
“In the meantime, we simply couldn’t turn down the chance to sign a rider with Adam Roynon’s experience and I believe he can give us a bit of extra strength down the bottom of the side and we welcome him to Scunthorpe.”
