Super Sunday preview: Scunthorpe v Edinburgh
SUPER SUNDAY AHEAD AT THE EDDIE WRIGHT RACEWAY
THERE are 44 races planned at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway tomorrow (Sunday), which the public can enjoy for just £19!
At 5pm, the Attis Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions take on the Edinburgh Monarchs in a crunch 15-heat league clash in the Championship. That will be followed, at approximately 7pm, by a planned 29 races, featuring 25 different rides, in Round 6 of the British Youth Championship.
Scorpions are currently in the middle of an injury crisis, but need to take a home victory over Edinburgh, another team in the battle for the top six and a place in the play-offs.
Scunthorpe are currently seventh, while Monarchs moved up to fifth place after a 56-34 over Scorpions on Friday evening, but Scorpions’ promoter Rob Godfrey believes they can take revenge over Edinburgh at the EWR.
Scorpions recently signed James Wright to cover for the injured Tero Aarnio and he makes his home debut for the club against Monarchs, while Kasper Andersen – an EWR track specialist – will guest for Jordan Palin. Scorpions will use rider replacement for Jake Allen, which means that every Scorpion, including No 1 Ryan Douglas will be able to take a R/R ride.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Of course, we’d prefer to have our full team, but speedway is a dangerous sport and we wish our injured lads a speedy recovery from their various knocks.
“I believe we’ve done our best to plug the gaps for the home meeting against Edinburgh. James Wright is a real racer and he will enjoy having the Eddie Wright Raceway as his home track, while we know, from a previous guest appearance, that Kasper Andersen likes our place. By using Kasper for Jordan, it means we can use rider replacement for Jake and that allows everyone to take an extra R/R ride.
“We know some of the Monarchs, such as Josh Pickering, also enjoy riding the EWR, and I believe yet another cracking meeting is on the cards.
“In addition, we have our round of the British Youth Championship. The youngsters always put on a great show wherever they go, and these young lads are the future of our sport, so it’s pleasure for us to host a round.”
