Big Match preview: Scunthorpe v Redcar
BANK HOLIDAY BELTER SET FOR THE EDDIE WRIGHT RACEWAY
ATTIS INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions are hoping that they can celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a home victory over the Redcar Bears at the Eddie Wright Raceway tomorrow evening (Bank Holiday Friday) at an earlier time than usual of 5pm.
The Scunthorpe management have offered free admission to all accompanied children aged 17 and under.
Sunday’s return clash between the two sides at Redcar has been postponed, due to lack of critical staff, but Scunthorpe have no such problems and its full steam ahead with the meeting on Friday.
Ryan Douglas returns to action for Scorpions following the reoccurrence of his shoulder injury that forced him to miss Saturday’s meeting at Leicester, while Connor Coles replaces the injured Ryan Kinsley.
Tero Aarnio is still serving a 14-day-suspenion and the in-form Justin Sedgmen comes in as a guest at No 4.
With the publication of the new Green Sheet averages, skipper Simon Lambert returns to his familiar No 2 spot, while Jordan Palin moves down to reserve, where last season he often proved a trump card around the EWR.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “There’s something about clashes between Scunthorpe and Redcar – they always seem to deliver brilliant racing. I’m sure everyone remembers last season’s epic clash that wasn’t decided until the final bend of the final race.
“It’s a shame that Redcar had to call off the meeting at their place on Sunday, but it now means that our meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway is the only time that the two teams are racing over the Jubilee Holiday Weekend and I’m hopeful that a fair few Redcar fans might decide to make the trip down, because there’s not too far between our two tracks.
“Redcar will present a tough challenge, but if we fire on all cylinders, we can defeat them and take the three points.
“With the 5pm start-time, we want to make it a great early evening out for families, which is why we’ve decided to make it free admission for all children aged 17 and under. We will have hook-a-duck and a bouncy castle, so they will be plenty of entertain the kids. All-in-all, it’s a meeting not to be missed.”
