ATTIS INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions showed excellent form around their home circuit for the second successive week, despatching the Birmingham Brummies by 54-36 at the Eddie Wright Raceway last night (Friday).

Scorpions took control of the meeting with successive maximums in Heats 3 and 4 to lead 16-8, although Birmingham showed some resistance, and gap was still at eight points with four races to go. But Scorpions banged in maximum race advantages in Heats 12, 14 and 15, while a 4-2 turned to a 2-4 in Heat 13, after Ryan Douglas slowed with bike problems on the final bend and dropped from first to last.

There was excellent racing throughout, with many battles between various Scorpions and Brummies’ top duo of Claus Vissing and Adam Ellis. Douglas came out on top in a thrilling battle with Ellis in Heat 6, but Ellis took revenge in Heat 10 when the two duked it out once more. Meanwhile, Jordan Palin just missed out in a photo finish after a wheel-to-wheel duel with Ellis in Heat 9.

No fewer than five Scorpions were paid for double figures, with both Tero Aarnio and Zaine Kennedy on paid 13, while Kennedy was also involved in three out of Scorpions’ five 5-1 maximum heat wins on the night.

Zaine Kennedy said: “I had a good meeting – I had some good races and got a lot of points on the board.

“I’m enjoying riding for Scunthorpe. It’s a new environment for me and one I’m enjoying. I like it here and the track suits me well. I can come here every week with confidence, because I know I can always score well around here. Everything is going smoothly.

“We treated Birmingham as a threat, because you can never afford not to do that. We approached the meeting as we did against Leicester last week, when we were out to win every race, and again once we got it all together at the end of the meeting, and we showed what we can do around here. Overall, it was a good night.”

SCUNTHORPE 54: Tero Aarnio 12+1, Zaine Kennedy 11+2, Ryan Douglas 11, Jordan Palin 8+2, Jake Allen 8+2, Simon Lambert 4+2, Ryan Kinsley 0.

BIRMINGHAM 36: Claus Vissing 12, Adam Ellis 10, James Shanes 7, Ashley Morris 3+1, James Pearson 3, Stefan Nielsen 1.

* ATTIS INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions are next in action at Plymouth on Tuesday, before they entertain Gladiators in the return fixture at the Eddie Wright Raceway next Friday (April 29) at 7.30pm).
