OLD BOYS RETURN AS SCORPIONS AIM FOR ANOTHER HOME VICTORY

ATTIS INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions will again be looking to show their mettle around their own track when they host the Birmingham Brummies at the Eddie Wright Raceway tonight (Friday) at 7.30pm.

Scunthorpe started their home fixtures on Good Friday with a resounding 55-35 victory over bogey team Leicester, putting an end to a run of 10 successive victories for Lions over Scorpions.

Birmingham have three ex-Scorpions in their line-up in the shape of last year’s No 1 Adam Ellis, Stefan Nielsen and Ashley Morris. It should be four, but sadly Josh Auty won’t be present, as he suffered a suspected broken leg riding for Brummies on Wednesday.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “It will not be an easy match tonight against Birmingham, because they have riders who like our track.

“But I think we learned a lot against Leicester last week. The riders were perfecting things and you saw that in the second half of the meeting.

“I’m sure it will be a top-notch night of racing at the Eddie Wright Raceway, while I have every confidence that we can finish the night with a victory and another three league points.

“While there’s nothing like a bit of live speedway in the flesh, our live streaming service made its debut last week. I thought it was brilliant and I was very proud of the boys. We sold quite a few, the meeting was a good one and the commentary was different and good.

“If our supporters can’t make it to a home match in future, they won’t have to miss out on the action from now on!”
