SCORPIONS AIM TO GET OFF TO WINNING START AT HOME

ATTIS INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions kick start their home fixtures with the visit of the Leicester Lions to the Eddie Wright Raceway later today (Good Friday, 5pm).

It’s almost four weeks since Scorpions’ No 1 Ryan Douglas won the Josh Auty testimonial at the track. Since then, Scunthorpe took a 28-62 walloping at Leicester on April 2, before going down 40-49 in a far better performance in the re-opening meeting at Oxford on Wednesday.

Leicester won three times at the EWR in 2021, but two of the trump cards, Douglas and Zaine Kennedy, are riding for Scorpions in 2022.

Team manager Dave Peet said: “Leicester have done us at our own place the last few years, but we feel we’ve got a team capable of not losing to anyone at home this season. There’s no doubt that tonight will be the acid test to that.

“Lions will fancy their changes, simply because they knocked up a big win against us at their place. But after our performance there, we realised we weren’t quite as well prepared as we needed to be. The lads had a skid after that, both at Scunthorpe and other places. The much better performance at Oxford on Wednesday showed they’d benefitted from the extra track time.

“I now feel we are fully ready for the visit of Leicester. We plan to go out all guns blazing and take the victory which can launch our whole season.”

For those who cannot make it, Scorpions launch a brand-new scheme for the club today, with the streaming of live meetings for just £11.99 at https://tv.scunthorpe-speedway.com/

While nothing can replace the live experience of being at a speedway meeting, this is especially helpful for fans from further afield who want to watch the action but who are too far away to make it to the Eddie Wright Raceway.

Promoter Rob Godfrey said: “This is a new, exciting opportunity for the club. You need to move with the times, and I think every British Speedway club will eventually be offering streaming services.

“The plan is to stream all of Scorpions’ home meetings, except the two which are already being shown on the British Speedway Network (BSN). I’d like to thank everyone whose hard work has allowed us to put this into place.”
