THE management of Scunthorpe Speedway found out the power of social media when it helped them track down vehicle that crashed through the gates at the Eddie Wright Raceway on the early hours of Saturday, January 8th.

It’s believed that the incident, which occurred at 12.56am, was accidental rather than on purpose. It was an icy night and once crashing through the gates, the occupant/s of the car did not try to enter the stadium.

The crash was caught on the security cameras at the Eddie Wright Raceway, and then the car was located after a post by Gail Godfrey on Facebook.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “To begin with, we thought someone had ram-raided through the gates on purpose, because they hit it at speed. But once we looked at the CCTV footage, we no longer thought that was the case.

“The car crashed through the gates on an icy night and then they just got going and left again. The annoying thing is that they made no attempt to contact us to let us know what they’d done.

“But we had the whole thing on camera and after Gail posted it on Facebook, it didn’t take long for someone to locate the vehicle for us. We’ve now passed the matter onto the police.”

Gail Godfrey added: “We’d just like to thank everyone for their help, especially the person who found the vehicle, sent us a photo and told us where it was.”

* JOSH AUTY has announced his first three stars who will ride in his testimonial, which opens the 2022 season at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Saturday, March 19th (5pm).
