ATTIS INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions’ teenage sensation Jordan Palin has confirmed that he will return to action in the British Under-19 Final at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway tonight (Friday) at 7.30pm.

The 17-year-old has been in brilliant form for Scunthorpe this season and registered his first maximum with the club against Birmingham at the EWR a month ago.

But he then crashed at Redcar on August 27 while racing for Scorpions and fractured his collarbone.

In an interview on his Facebook page, Palin revealed he’d had a practice session at Scunthorpe yesterday (Thursday) and said: “It felt good, really good to be back on the bike. Three weeks without racing felt like three months to me! Practice went well with no ill effects, so although it will take time to fully get over the injury, I am ready to return and race again, without a doubt.

“I really have been lucky to have Steve Williams, the sports physio working closely with me these past three weeks which has kept me focused and aided my recovery.

“I rested the first two weeks whilst continuing my strict diet, but I have been back doing plenty of cycling and general fitness training which is going well.

“All I want to do is race my bike, so watching everyone else race was tough. I want to be out there, contributing to the results and helping win meetings.”

Twelve months ago at the Eddie Wright Raceway, Palin finished third to Drew Kemp, who successfully defended his title, while Dan Gilkes finished second. All three are back in this year’s meeting.

The event is excellent value. Both the adult admission price and the concessions price for OAPs and students are £2 cheaper than for a Scorpions’ home meeting at the EWR, while there are 20 heats, plus maybe an extra run-off or two, if there is a tie for any of the top three places.

Expected line-up for today (Friday):
1. Joe Thompson (Leicester Lions and Leicester Cubs)
2. Ben Trigger (Leicester Cubs)
3. Daniel Gilkes (Kent Kings and Kent Royals)
4. Jason Edwards (Plymouth Gladiators and Mildenhall Fen Tigers)
