Skipper Lambert “buzzing” after key victory
ATTIS INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions’ skipper Simon Lambert has revealed his delight after Scorpions all but mathematically sealed a place in the Championship play-offs with a superb 50-34 victory over league leaders Poole Pirates at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday night.
The 32-year-old top scored for Scunthorpe with 14+2 from seven rides, as Scorpions put in a determined performance in challenging conditions, after a heavy rain shower at just past 6pm.
Writing on his twitter account, Lambert said: “It was a wet meeting and a must win, but we smashed it! As a team, we were so up for it. Personally, it was my best score all season, so buzzing is an understatement!
“I had some sponsors there, so it was a bonus to show them what I can do! I must give a special mention to Liam on the spanners. [It was] seven rides again, [so] it’s as tough on him as it is me, and he keeps the bikes going. I only ride them!
“I haven’t seen much of my wife (Sam) and kids in the last 10 days, but they’ve helped wash bikes, the van and that. Although they aren’t always with me, I know I have the support at home when times get tough!
“Sam, Liam and the children, thank you all so much and, as ever, my sponsors too after massive steps forward last night!”
Lambert also praised Scorpions’ supporters, revealing in a post-meeting interview in the clubhouse that: “The fans were like an 8th man tonight, they were exceptional!”
Scorpions are now waiting for their challengers to complete their fixtures by the play-off deadline of September 26th.
The first round of the play-offs at Scunthorpe is most likely to take place on Friday, October 1st.
