SCORPIONS NEED BOUNCEBACKABILITY AT GLASGOW

ATTIS INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions are looking to hit back from a home setback to Leicester on Friday evening by taking a victory at Glasgow’s Peugeot Ashfield Stadium this afternoon (Sunday).

Due to a poor weather forecast later in the day, the meeting north of the border has been brought forward by three hours to a 3pm start-time.

Scunthorpe are currently in sixth place – the final play-off qualification place – in the Championship table, but they could move back up to third with the right result today.

Scorpions continue to be without both Tero Aarnio (visa issues) and Jordan Palin (collarbone injury).

Kasper Andersen, who scored 16+1 for Berwick at Glasgow last Sunday, comes in as a guest for Aarnio, while Scorpions will use rider replacement for Palin.

Scunthorpe won their last encounter at Glasgow by 53-37 in August 2019, with Simon Lambert (pictured) top scoring with a sensational 12+5 tally from reserve. Coincidentally, Scorpions’ skipper Lambert is now back at reserve.

Scorpions’ team manager Dave Peet said: “We’ve chosen Kasper Andersen as our guest on the strength of his performance at Glasgow last week, while we also have several other riders who are very handy around the Ashfield track.

“We’re not going up there to make up the numbers. We intend to give Glasgow a real challenge for the league points, because a win for us would be invaluable in terms of keeping us on target for the play-offs.”

Attis Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions’ expected line-up: 1. Adam Ellis, 2. Rider replacement for Jordan Palin, 3. Theo Pijper, 4. Kasper Andersen (guest), 5. Thomas Jorgensen, 6. Josh MacDonald, 7. Simon Lambert (captain).

* THE collection for the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday evening raised a magnificent total of £1227.88.
