ATTIS INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions are seeking to gain a vital victory which would leave them with one foot in the Championship play-offs, when they host reigning champions Leicester Lions at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday (September 3) at 7.30pm.

The league table has taken on a slightly different complexion, following the very sad closure of Eastbourne last week and the expunging of their results. All at Scunthorpe Speedway sincerely hope that the Eagles can return in 2022.

Scorpions are currently fourth in the battle for the top six places and a play-off place, some seven points clear of seventh-placed Kent Kings. Leicester are sixth, just a point ahead of Kings.

Scorpions will be missing both Jordan Palin and Tero Aarnio on Friday. Palin suffered a fracture in his collarbone at Redcar last Friday, while Aarnio is currently unable to travel to the UK due to visa complications. The Finn is stressed about not being to travel across and Scorpions have a sick note to cover for his absence.

Rising Star Palin has moved into the top five of Scorpions’ line-up for September, while skipper Simon Lambert moves down to the reserve berth. Therefore, Scorpions will be able to use rider replacement to cover for the 17-year-old’s absence, while Ben Barker is expected to guest for Aarnio.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We’ve won eight out of eight league matches at home, and we will be out to make it nine out of nine against Leicester and take another major step towards the play-offs.

“It won’t be easy. Leicester won at the Eddie Wright Raceway earlier this season in the KO Cup, although the track was different that night, due to a heavy rain shower in early evening. But if we ride to our capabilities, we can beat them.

“It’s going to be a thrilling night of action for the fans to enjoy. We’re also holding our Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund collection on Friday, and I hope the fans will give generously to this worthy cause.”
