ATTIS INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions are excited to join forces with Scunthorpe United Football Club in a new partnership.

The two professional sides from the North Lincolnshire town will be working closely together in the coming weeks and months.

It will initially focus on the government’s Kickstart Scheme, which provides funding to employers to create jobs for 16-to-24-year-olds on Universal Credit. The partnership will also provide further marketing and promotional opportunities for both clubs.

Scunthorpe United’s Education Manager Gav Cooper said: “We are delighted to be forming a partnership with the Scorpions, who provide another outlet to watching live professional sport within the town.

“The importance of sport within a town is pivotal and it’s fantastic that we have not only a professional football team, but a professional speedway side as well. It’s not only a fantastic time, but also an important time for both teams to be supporting each other. There is a big cross-over in terms of the two fanbases.

“We are looking forward to working with them on a number of different ventures, including within the local community via the Kickstart Scheme and to help give individuals in Scunthorpe and the surrounding areas access to sport. Our intention is that this partnership will grow and develop over the coming weeks, months and years.”

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey added: “I’m very excited by this partnership between Scorpions and Scunthorpe United. I know plenty of our supporters also support the Iron and will also be delighted by this link.

“In June, we had a visit from Gav Cooper, who is the Education Manager of Scunthorpe United’s Community Sport and Education Trust and we realised what each club could do for each other.

“We’ve been doing a lot of stuff that goes un-noticed. For example, one day recently, we had forty or so kids on our mini-track on little pee-wees. But with Scunthorpe United’s help, we can now unlock that the funding to the Kickstart Scheme and help our local community even more.

“Our partnership with Scunthorpe United is just beginning. But I hope it continues for many years to come and is hugely beneficial to both clubs.”
