Scunthorpe v Berwick – Big Match Preview
SCORPIONS AIMING FOR SIX OF THE BEST!
SECOND-PLACED Attis Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions are out to maintain their 100% home league record when they entertain the Berwick Bandits at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway tomorrow (Friday, July 2nd) at 7.30pm.
Meetings revert to Friday this week, after two splendid victories over league leaders Glasgow Tigers and third-placed Edinburgh Monarchs on the last two Sundays.
Scorpions have shown excellent form around their own track in the Championship, with five wins out of five over Plymouth, Eastbourne, Newcastle, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Not only that, but the entertainment at the EWR has been out of the top draw. The clash with Monarchs contained between 30 and 40 passes beyond the opening half lap, with 17-year-old Jordan Palin scoring a brilliant 16+2 from the No 7 berth.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We’ve been spoilt rotten so far with the quality of the matches we’ve seen at the Eddie Wright Raceway in 2021.
“Last Sunday’s fixture against Edinburgh was another classic with some outstanding racing and, once again from our point of view, we had the right result at the end of it.
“We’ve gone from people writing us off at the beginning of the season to where we are now, potentially looking like we can put a shift in to challenge for the league title. It’s very enjoyable right now, I’ve got to tell you!
“The confidence is there in the team, you can see it, and we’ve taken some of the best on and beaten them already in the likes of Glasgow and Edinburgh. No team had managed to beat Edinburgh this season until we did it on Sunday and what a fantastic speedway meeting it was. Every single meeting is important, home and away, but it is also important that we give the fans something to cheer about.
“We certainly won’t take the challenge of Berwick lightly. We already know what the Bandits are capable of, from our visit there earlier this season. We’ll be out there to do a professional job and get that job done and let’s hope we can make it six home league wins on the bounce.”
It has yet to be confirmed whether Danish star Thomas Jorgensen will be fit to resume, after suffering a shoulder injury at Edinburgh last week.
Tickets for the meeting are on sale on the club website.
