NEW No 1 Adam Ellis will make his debut for Attis Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions in a league match at Edinburgh’s Armadale stadium tonight (Friday).

It represents the first of two clashes between the two sides this weekend – they also meet at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday (3pm). Tickets are already on sale at the Scunthorpe Speedway website for a bumper afternoon that also includes the 500cc and 250cc classes of the British Youth Championship.

Both teams are in good form. Scunthorpe currently sit second in the Championship table, largely courtesy of their strong home performances. Meanwhile, Monarchs are directly behind them in third place and have yet to taste defeat this season – with two wins and two draws in four league matches.

25-year-old Ellis has replaced Scunthorpe legend Josh Auty in Scorpions’ line-up. The French-born rider comes in on an average of 9.74. Last weekend, he qualified for the Grand Prix Challenge and he is just five rides away from the 2022 Grand Prix series.

Scorpions will be missing Jordan Palin tonight, as he is riding in a European Under-19 qualifier in the Czech Republic tomorrow (Saturday), and bring in Connor Coles at No 7.

Expected teams for tonight (Friday):

Edinburgh Monarchs: 1. Sam Masters, 2. Nathan Greaves, 3. Kye Thomson, 4. Josh Pickering, 5. Richie Worrall, 6. Joe Lawlor, 7. William Lawson.

Attis Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Adam Ellis, 2. Simon Lambert (captain), 3. Theo Pijper, 4. Tero Aarnio, 5. Thomas Jorgensen, 6. Josh MacDonald, 7. Connor Coles (guest).
