Big Match Preview – Scunthorpe v Glasgow
SCORPIONS AIMING TO DEFEAT LEADERS IN TOP-OF-THE-TABLE CLASH
SECOND-PLACED Attis Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions will be seeking to become only the second side this season to defeat the mighty Glasgow Tigers at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday (June 20) at 3pm.
Glasgow are top of the league table, having won five out of six of their first Championship fixtures. Scorpions’ current second place is based on their rock-solid form at home – with league victories at the EWR over Plymouth, Eastbourne and Newcastle.
A packed afternoon will consist of 33 races in total and also features action from the British Youth Championship, which will follow the Scunthorpe vs Glasgow clash.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says: “Glasgow have made a flying start to the season, but they suffered their first defeat away at Redcar last Sunday, when they conceded 5-1s in each of the last two heats to lose 43-47.
“They will obviously give us a proper test on Sunday afternoon, but we’ve brought in Jake Allen as a guest at No 1, which is something of an obvious move after Josh Auty was ruled out by the concussion protocol following his nasty crash away at Leicester last Saturday.
“It promises to be a fantastic meeting, between the two sides who, at the time of writing, are first and second in the league.
“Not only that, but we also have 18 races featuring some of the best young British talent in the county, in the 125/150cc class of the British Youth Championship. We’ve split our round across the next two Sundays, with the 500cc and 250cc classes the following Sunday (June 27), after the match against Edinburgh.”
Tickets for the meeting are on sale on the club website.
