SIMON LAMBERT will be captain of the Scunthorpe Scorpions for the forthcoming 2021 season, which starts at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday, May 21, with the visit of Plymouth Gladiators.

Lambert, aged 32, started his career at Boston in 2004, and joined Scunthorpe for the first time in 2009 and 2010.

He rejoined Scorpions in mid-2019, and often proved a match-winner with some consistent performances, including a terrific 12+5 return in a stunning 53-37 victory at Glasgow.

Lambert said: “I am very honoured and proud to be named captain of Scunthorpe this year. It’s not only a proud moment for me but also my family.

“It’s great news for my sponsors and fans who have supported me throughout my career. I will be doing my very best to keep the team spirit high within the team. I will be behind all the boys 100 per cent and who knows we might be able to lift a trophy by the end of the year.

“It’s a massive boost for me before the start of the season and like I say, it is a big and proud moment for me having been captain at Peterborough and Boston before now. I can’t wait to get going and lead the team for the first time against Plymouth on May 21.”
