HEB Scunthorpe Stags have announced their first five riders for the clash with Leicester at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Bank Holiday Monday, August 31st (3pm).

The event is the first team speedway meeting in the UK in 2020. A limited number of tickets have gone on sale on the club website and are expected to sell out.

It is being run at grassroots level – as a National Development League challenge match.

21-year-old Ryan Kinsley rode at reserve for Scunthorpe Scorpions in 2019. He showed plenty of potential in his first speedway season at Championship level and scored a notable victory from the back against seven-time British Champion Scott Nicholls, ironically against Leicester.

He was due to ride at Mildenhall in the aborted 2020 National League and will line-up as a heat leader for Stags.

Stags have also named their two reserves: talented youngsters Archie Freeman and Harry McGurk.

The innovative 19-heat heat format will also include four 250cc races, and Stags will be represented by local youngster Luke Harrison and William Hocaniuk.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “It’s going to be a great day. We’re expecting the tickets to be snapped up because supporters do love team speedway – there’s nothing quite the same as seeing one team pitted against another.

“Ryan Kinsley was very popular with the Scunthorpe fans last season – he showed a lot of potential and never gave less than 100% which always goes down well.

“The meeting also allows us to showcase some of the cracking young riders we’ve seen developing at the Eddie Wright Raceway over the last few years.

“Luke Harrison is a local lad who is mega-keen with a supportive family and it’s fabulous that he can make his debut for the club at the age of just 13.”

No fewer than 19 riders are expected to compete in the meeting, with the addition of the four 250cc riders, while Leicester are planning to split their No 7 outings between two riders.

There are a limited number of tickets on sale, which will be sold on a first-come first-served basis, so supporters are encouraged to buy sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment.

Tickets are only available online via this club website – entry is by pre-purchased ticket only.

The price for all adults aged 16 and above is £15.50 (£15 plus a 50p handling fee – the handling fee goes to PayPal, not the club). This all-inclusive price includes the programme and parking. Under 16s admitted free with a contact tracing responsible adult.

On the day, officials and riders will enter and leave via the pits entrance, while members of the public will enter via the turnstiles.

Members of the public are expected to respect the safe distancing advice given. If they do not, or show signs of Covid-19, they may be asked to leave. Any individual already showing signs of Covid-19 must not visit the venue. Scunthorpe Speedway will again provide fuller details regarding the Covid-19 measures in place in due course.

Tickets are available under the Ticket Office menu on this website at:
