HEB Scunthorpe Scorpions will start their league fixtures, with an intriguing and mouth-watering clash with the Newcastle Diamonds at the Eddie Wright Raceway tonight (Friday, 7.30pm).

The Diamonds’ team is led by former Scorpions’ Steve Worrall and Thomas Jorgensen and contains no less than five former Scunthorpe riders, with Simon Lambert, Max Clegg and Danny Phillips also in the side.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We obviously want to get away to a good start by winning our first league match and the boys ought to be confident having won four out of four at the Eddie Wright Raceway this season.

“But Newcastle will be no pushovers, and with former Scorpions such as Steve Worrall and Thomas Jorgensen in their ranks, they are certain to give us a great match.

“The line-ups do look a bit like Scunthorpe v Ex-Scunthorpe, so it’s going to be a night of top entertainment. Heat 13 should be worth the admission money alone, with Josh (Auty) and Jake (Allen) pitted against Steve Worrall and Thomas Jorgensen.

“It’s a tough test and we will need the crowd right behind our boys, but one I believe that we can pass. It’s definitely one not to be missed.”
