HEB SCUNTHORPE SCORPIONS are involved in their opening fixture of the new season in a Championship Shield fixture in a local derby at Sheffield tonight (Sunday, 6pm).

Scunthorpe are included in a Championship Shield group also featuring Sheffield, Leicester and Redcar, with the group winner progressing automatically to the semi-finals. The best runner-up from the three groups will also progress.

Scorpions’ opening home fixture is at home to Leicester at the Eddie Wright Raceway next Friday (April 5th, 7.30pm).

Scorpions include a couple of ex-Tigers in their line-up, in the shape of Josh Auty and Jason Garrity.

Scunthorpe have four riders returning from 2018: Auty, Garrity, Jake Allen and Stefan Nielsen. Josh Bailey returns after a year with National League Mildenhall, while both Jedd List and Ryan Kinsley make their Scorpions’ debuts tonight.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We’ve already said we’ve set the team up to take home wins this season, and then we’ll see what we can do away from home.

“We go into each meeting with the aim to get something out of it, and that applies to our visit to Sheffield.”

Expected teams for tonight:

Sheffield Tigers: 1. Danny King, 2. Zaine Kennedy, 3. Kasper Andersen, 4. Ty Proctor, 5. Kyle Howarth, 6. Broc Nicol, 7. Drew Kemp.

HEB Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Josh Auty, 2. Stefan Nielsen, 3. Jason Garrity, 4. Jedd List, 5. Jake Allen, 6. Ryan Kinsley, 7. Josh Bailey.
