HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions are all ready for their biggest night of the 2018 season to date, when they host Workington Comets in the first leg of their Championship Shield semi-final at the Eddie Wright Raceway tomorrow (Friday, 7.30pm).

Scorpions – buoyed by a dramatic victory over local rivals Sheffield Tigers last week – will be looking to build up an advantage to take to the second leg at Derwent Park, on a date still to be determined.

Scunthorpe will use rider replacement for Stefan Nielsen, who is still ruled out by the 9-day-concussion rule. Meanwhile, Anders Rowe will come in as a National League guest for the released Danny Phillips at No 6.

Former Scorpion Nicolai Klindt, the track record holder at the Eddie Wright Raceway, heads a solid-looking Workington side.

Promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We are just one step away from the Championship Shield final, and the lads will be going for it.

“Workington are tough opponents, but when you look at the two league results between the two clubs, I firmly believe we can do it.

“I’m not going to set a target for the first leg, but obviously we need a lead and every point is important. It’s all about scoring 91 points over the two meetings.

“We had some superb speedway at the Eddie Wright Raceway last week, when we defeated Sheffield, and I’m sure the action will be top-notch again. It’s going to be a fabulous night of speedway, and we need the crowd to get behind us and cheer the lads onto victory.”
