Scorpions seek to trump local rivals
LOCAL pride is on the line when Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions entertain Sheffield Tigers in a vital league fixture at the Eddie Wright Raceway tonight (Friday, 7.30pm).
Scorpions have Jason Garrity back on the sidelines, after he aggravated his hand injury while racing at King’s Lynn on Wednesday.
Rider replacement will cover Stefan Nielsen – still on the road to recovery from a broken leg – while ex-Scorpion Tero Aarnio will guest for Garrity.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We’re still alive and kicking in our task to reach the top four and get into the play-offs, but we know we must win our remaining three home league meetings, starting against Sheffield tonight.
“But it’s not just the league points at stake. It’s also local pride – we always want to put one over Sheffield, as they do with us.
“We had an absolute cracker against Glasgow at the Eddie Wright Raceway five days ago, and I’m sure we’re set for another humdinger for a meeting tonight.
“When you look at Sheffield’s line-up and you look at our line-up, there’s almost a guarantee of superb racing around one of the best racetracks in the country.”
